SRH University Heidelberg Summer School in Music Therapy

In 2019, I was awarded a DAAD scholarship to attend a two-week course taught by the faculty of the expressive arts program, led by Dr. Douglas Keith, at SRH University Heidelberg in Heidelberg, Germany. The focus was twofold, (1) music therapy treatment for psychosomatic disorders, and (2) cultural exchange among participants. Participants were made up of students and professionals from countries around the world including the USA, United Kingdom, Iran, China, Taiwan, Kosovo, France, Greece, Japan, and more. We explored the intricacies of culture and its relation to collaboration, social identity, conflict-resolution, and of course implications for music therapy practice. Various humanistic and psychodynamic music therapy techniques were demonstrated and practiced throughout the course. SRH University Heidelberg offers a comprehensive two-year Master’s in Music Therapy taught in English and welcomes students of all nationalities to join the program.
